Athens sits at the head of the Saronic Gulf, an hour from open water and a world away from the city behind it. From the marinas at Piraeus and Vouliagmeni the yacht turns south into a run of islands close enough to reach by lunch — Aegina, Poros, Hydra — each with its own harbour, its own rhythm, its own reason to stay a night longer. The days are unhurried. Mornings at anchor in a quiet bay, afternoons ashore among ruins and back streets, evenings on deck as the light goes long over the water. It is antiquity and open sea in the same afternoon, and the yacht is the thread that holds them together.

Depart the Athenian Riviera, swim off Moni islet, and take the evening in Aegina town.
DAY TWO
Hydra

ON THE WATER

This is cruising at a Mediterranean pace. Anchor off a cove for a swim before breakfast, take the tender ashore for a long lunch, then lift the passerelle and move on as the afternoon cools. The Saronic is compact enough to island-hop without a schedule, and close enough to Athens that a morning flight can end with dinner at anchor.
